The Lobsterfest was started in 1998 by the Placencia chapter of the Belize Tourism Industry Association as a way to boost the local economy during the low season and coincide with the fishing cooperative's Fisherman's Day festivities. From humble beginnings with just a single table, it has grown into Belize's biggest food festival.
